Why Turtles?
GBS/CIDP Support, a charity dedicated to supporting people with these conditions, has adopted the turtle
as its mascot, representing the slow but steady
recovery process associated with these conditions.
Symbolism
The turtle, with its slow movement, symbolises the often-gradual and sometimes challenging recovery journey of individuals with Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) and
Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP).
Other Uses
You can find the turtle symbol on merchandise, stickers, and other materials related to the GBS/CIDP community.
Turtles are the “mascot” for
Guillain-Barre Syndrome because nerves are notoriously slow to heal. Many survivors say GBS should really stand for
Getting Better Slowly.
